I think the 64 bitness isn't really necessary for a Mac mini. You're not going to shoehorn >4 GB of memory into two slots, unless memory manufacturers are going to change their minds which I don't think will happen just yet.
The 20% increase in performance only applies to media and content creation. I guess that would be good for a HTPC, but Word won't run any faster. (Tt may start faster though).
There is no reason for Yonah owners to upgrade just yet. It's really more of a nice bonus for those people who could wait until now to get a computer.
Apple prices were lower before because the stagnant tech demanded it. For all we know, the $599 could be the maximum on Apple's profit curve.

They're going to have to go multi-thread capable, demands on consumer software is only going to increase as we take what is cutting edge today and integrate it into everyday life.
They're going to need every ounce of grunt they can find. Not if you're going for an embedded system that doesn't need a heavy duty CPU and graphics. I built a fanless home server/internet filter/firewall box for less than $200 (and this is in the mini form factor - mini-ITX). A mini would be overkill for that and almost all of the other above listed embedded applications. Get the right tool for the right job is all I'm saying. I would never use a VIA system for a desktop, but for almost every embedded application they're fantastic.With the G4 Mini's hitting $300-400 I see a better buy there. Then again I do love Mini-ITX and playing with Linux. (Free OS and good support for mini server applications.) There's an application for both. I just see the Mac mini being a"mini mac" for only a little bit more.
Folks need to be careful when making G5 to Conroe/etc. comparisons....
The PPC 970FX (single core G5 which was in the iMac G5) has a TDP below that of a Conroe.
The Conroe and Woodcrest have a TDP well below the PPC 970MP (dual core G5) which was used in the later generation PowerMac G5 systems.For some odd reason even though the 970FX has a lower TDP the Conroe systems are surprisingly cool. I've seen 50� C from Conroe under full load. That's a lot lower then the 75� C on my iMac G5.

I've watched every movie I own at least 15x, and most of them many more than that. I for one won't rent from itunes, I'd rather not is all. If they make money off of it, more power to them

If anybody's seen that Date Night movie with Tina Fey and Steve Carrell, Mark Wahlberg uses custom touch screen Macs (well you can tell it's iMacs and ACDs but they made it look like a typical Spy style touch screen) in the movie and it looks a lot like that. If that's what Apple releases, I would be blown away.

As long as we are using them only against military targets, and not handing them over to the rebels to use how they want I see no problem. It will end with a lot fewer people dead than if we let Gadaffi kill his own people. Plus having the international community stand up to him will show other dictators that if their people want them to go they can't use force to stay.

Movies will have a limited number of plays, rather than a limited number of time to view. Or, alternately, you will pay-per-view (literally).I rarely watch a movie exactly once straight through from start to finish. I might back up to see a scene again, skip the boring parts where there are no car chases or spy gadgets, pause to answer the phone and then back up because I missed a few seconds, stop because it's been 15 minutes and I feel the need to visit MacRumors and then start again the next day because I forgot I hadn't finished the movie, watch the opening scenes again after the final credits because it's fun after you know secrets you learn later in the movie, and so on.
So what constitutes "one play" of a movie?

Imagine taking the steering wheel and pedals out of a real car and putting an iPad on the dashboard.
It does not matter how great the car is, how nice the quality of the machine, what size engine you have, it's still going to be ruined, and make you a slow terrible driver as you can't cannot control it very well using a touch screen.
People said the same thing with touch screens in airplanes yet the top-of-the-line fighters have touch-screen control. Admittedly, they don't use the touch screens as their flight controllers, but when you consider the volume and velocity of their decision-making, it shows it can be done.
I think it will all depend on what you get used to.

desktops are slowly but surely dying out. Notebooks are becoming more and more powerful and even moreso portable so what will an iMac offer that MacBooks won't have? Larger screen?

I'm a Consumer Reports subscriber, but I know their tech coverage is spotty at best. Sometimes it's laughably wrong. And too many people take their word as gospel instead of just one more useful data point. Heh, it's funny but as this thread is developing I just got a subscriber email from them asking for a $26 donation to them so they can continue to buy the products they test. I'll pay them $26 because I believe in their non-advertiser supported model.
I just want to confirm that I did send them the $26 donation they asked for from their subscribers. I believe in what they do, even if I disagree with them on this issue (as noted ad naseum in this thread).

I think that apple is doing ok , think i read it in another thread "Apple is the Porsche and Dell is the Ford of computers " i dont know about the rest of you but i like to have something that most people do not have or afford for that matter , call me snobby but i'd rather have something that works time and time again then to bimber around trying to get that dam Graphics card to work with XP.

I drive manuals although I won't buy them any longer as there is just too much traffic and local, stop and go driving in my routine.
